MOUNT VERNON, N.Y. (PIX11) – A sergeant and four police officers have been suspended after an inmate shot another inmate inside a van heading to the Westchester County Jail, according to Mount Vernon officials.
Officials said five prisoners were being transported by MVPD Officers Omar Bryce and Sonjea Collins on Oct. 16 when they heard a gunshot from the back of the van. An inmate also said he had been shot, according to authorities.
Officials said the van was turned around back to police headquarters, where a .22-caliber revolver was taken from inmate 32-year-old Louis Soto. He allegedly smuggled the gun into the van in his buttocks, sources told PIX11 News.
