United States Vice President JD Vance has branded a vote in Israel's parliament aimed at allowing the annexation of the West Bank an "insult" during a visit to discuss plans for the future of Gaza.
A largely symbolic vote in the Knesset, brought by hardline members angry at the US-led ceasefire with Hamas, narrowly passed 24 to 25 on Wednesday, with the move seen in part as an effort to embarrass Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.
It is unlikely the bill will garner enough support to pass through the multiple rounds of voting in Israel's 120-seat chamber required for it to become law and Mr Netanyahu also possesses tools to delay or defeat the measure.
