The largest capsule hotel in Europe, if not the world, has opened in London with beds for just £30 a night, or $61.

The arrival of the 1000-pod Zedwell Capsule Hotel in the old London Pavilion above Piccadilly Circus station on Shaftesbury Avenue has caused a media frenzy.

Most reviews were favourable although one writer likened it to sleeping in an MRI tunnel while another feared her windowless “room” would leave her with claustrophobia.

She survived.

I stayed in one of these pod hotels in Tokyo a decade ago and loved it.

I felt it was as comfortable as my reclining “bed” on my business class flight on Qantas. And I do get a kick out of sleeping compartments on trains.

Zedwell claims it is the largest pod hotel in the world.
