New Orleans city workers rallied outside City Hall to demand transparency just days after Mayor LaToya Cantrell' administration warned that a budget crunch could jeopardize the city's ability to pay its nearly 5,000 city employees.

The rally took place ahead of a meeting Thursday where the City Council is expected to vote on a measure requesting the state Bond Commission to approve $125 million in short-term revenue bonds, otherwise known as payday loans for strapped city governments

“This budget cannot be balanced on workers’ backs," said Amanda Fallis, president of AFSCME Local 2349, a union representing city workers.
