Enough rejected ballots to potentially affect the outcome of the Ward 12 race, officials say

Elections Calgary has confirmed it will conduct a recount for Ward 12, where Monday’s election was decided by only 29 votes.

But the local returning officer said she has rejected a runner-up candidate’s request for a recount in Ward 9, which was decided by 267 votes.

In a news release Wednesday night, Elections Calgary said upon examining the unofficial results, there were enough rejected ballots other than those on which no vote had been cast to potentially affect the outcome of the Ward 12 race.

The recount will be held Thursday morning at the Big Four building.
