Detectives have charged a lorry driver in relation to an incident on the M62 in which two Ryanair pilots died.

Captain Matt Greenhalgh, 28, and Senior First Officer Jamie Fernandes, 24, were en route to Liverpool John Lennon Airport in a taxi early at 5.31am on July 11 last year when their taxi was involved in a horrific crash.

The crash, involving the taxi and two HGVs, took place on the westbound stretch between junctions 8 and 7. Tragically, Mr Greenhalgh and Mr Fernandes were pronounced dead at the scene, while the taxi driver sustained serious injuries and was rushed to hospital.
