Carly Valentino scored three goals to lift Mechanicsburg field hockey to a 6-0 win over South Western in the opening round of the District 3 Class 3A tournament Wednesday at Memorial Park Stadium.

Avery Rutter, Kenzie Husselman and Kayla Weldon also scored for the No. 4 Wildcats; Rutter and Husselman also recorded assists. Olivia Schweighart kept the clean sheet in the cage, keeping the No. 13 Mustangs off the scoreboard.

The Wildcats, now 15-3-1, will face No. 5 Cumberland Valley in the quarterfinals Saturday at Memorial Park Stadium.

Cumberland Valley defeated Central Dauphin 9-0 in the first round Wednesday.
