APACHE-SITGREAVES NATIONAL FORESTS, AZ (AZFamily) — While the Valley is slowly changing seasons and easing into fall, it’s not so subtle in eastern Arizona’s White Mountains.

At about 9,000 feet in elevation, the yellows, golds, oranges and reds are on full display right now. Several hikes in the White Mountains will get you up close to the changing colors.

The East Baldy trail in the Mount Baldy Wilderness area offers views of the changing colors. The trailhead is about 45 minutes from Pinetop just past the turn to the Sunrise Ski area.

Another great hike in the area is the Thompson Trail. It’s a popular spot not too far from Big Lake and Reservation Lake in the White Mountains. It’s about an hour from Pinetop. The 5-mile trail is fairly flat and winds along the banks of the west fork
