The 88-year-old Krewe of Hermes has used the huge warehouse a 418-436 Sixth St. near Tchoupitoulas Street to store its floats since at least the 1970s. In June, the krewe management purchased an adjacent property in hopes of expanding the den.

On Thursday, the City Council voted unanimously, 7-0, to grant the venerable parading organization a conditional use permit to proceed with its plans. If all goes as intended, the krewe will demolish a yellow warehouse at 2903 Tchoupitoulas St. in order to expand its Sixth Street float storage space and create a new entrance.

In June, The Historic District Landmarks Commission approved demolition of the yellow warehouse. The commission also approved the concept for the new den's design.
