A man was struck and killed by a vehicle on Thursday morning while fleeing from Immigration and Customs Enforcement officers in Norfolk, according to state police.
Virginia State Police said in a news release that troopers responded to a report of a pedestrian being struck by a vehicle on Interstate 264 east near the Military Highway interchange at 11 a.m.
The victim, who has not been identified, was being pursued by ICE officers before exiting his vehicle and trying to cross the interstate when he was hit by a 2002 Ford pickup, according to investigators. The man was pronounced dead at the scene.
State police are investigating the death but were not involved in the pursuit, the agency said in a news release.
