NORFOLK, Va. — Virginia State Police said a man who was hit and killed by a vehicle on Interstate 264 on Thursday morning had been fleeing from immigration authorities.
VSP said the crash happened around 11 a.m. on eastbound I-264 at the Military Highway Interchange in Norfolk, heading toward Virginia Beach. When troopers arrived, they found a man had been hit by a 2002 Ford pickup truck. The man was pronounced dead at the scene.
A preliminary investigation revealed that the man had exited his vehicle and attempted to cross the interstate while fleeing a pursuit initiated by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE). VSP said its troopers had not been involved in the pursuit.
ICE told 13News Now that three other people were detained in the incident.
