MESA COUNTY, Colo. (KREX) - The Mesa County Sheriff's Office stated that it has been tackling the issue of squatters in the 29 Road Desert area for the past three years.
The sheriff's office stated that the squatters on public and private lands hamper the multi-use of the land in the desert. In photos and screenshots provided by the MCSO, they indicate much debris, trash and even a broken-down RV in the desert.
"Individuals squatting cause unsafe and hazardous situations that have gone unchecked for years in the north desert. Multi-agency and private property boundaries have caused challenges that I’ve dedicated staff and resources to resolve.
