ROCHESTER, N.Y. (WROC) — According to a report from the New York State Department of Health, the decline in youth tobacco use has continued to reach new lows.
They say tobacco use among high school students has decreased to 17%, the lowest level recorded since tracking began in 2000.
E-cigarette usage has seen a significant decline, falling from nearly 19% in 2022 to around 13% in 2024, making vaping the most prevalent form of tobacco use among youth.
The use of nicotine pouches is on the rise, however, having doubled from 1.5% to 3.0% since 2022. This increase raises concerns due to the appealing flavors, ease of concealment, and high potential for nicotine addiction associated with these products.
