MADISON (WKOW) — Washington County Executive Josh Schoemann is calling for State Superintendent Dr. Jill Underly to step down after published news reports revealed how school districts in Wisconsin handle reports of teacher misconduct.

The Cap Times published information this week stating that there's currently no statewide system in place to track sexual misconduct by teachers. Additionally, school districts throughout the state consistently asked for thousands of dollars to obtain teacher misconduct records, the Cap Times reported.

The newspaper's investigation also revealed there were over 200 Wisconsin teacher license investigations into alleged sexual misconduct from 2018-2023.

In a press release, Schoemann criticized Underly for not attending a public inquiry into the matter.
