October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month.
Dr. Kimberly Helseth works for the Nebraska Medicine Fred & Pamela Buffett Cancer Center.
Helseth says doctors recommend that all women age 40 and older get an annual screening mammogram. She says mammograms are able to detect cancer by up to 90%.
Helseth says there is exciting new technology for breast cancer treatment, including robotic nipple sparing mastectomies, "which are even more minimally invasive than the surgeries we are doing right now."
