JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. - Nearly 56,000 federal employees in Missouri will not receive scheduled paychecks this Friday as the federal government shutdown stretches beyond three weeks.
Gov. Mike Kehoe's Office shared the figure Thursday, along with additional information in the shutdown's economic impact.
Friday will mark the first missed paycheck cycle in full for impacted federal workers, many of whom remain on duty but cannot be compensated until the government reopens.
According to the governor's office, Missouri's Gross State Product is expected to decline by nearly $232 million for each week the shutdown continues. The office also estimates that up to 800 federal employees in Missouri could face unemployment if the shutdown reaches one month.
