NASSAU COUNTY, Fla — After more than four decades, the Nassau County Sheriff’s Office says it has officially closed the 1983 murder case of Delbert “Lou” Luzader — thanks to a breakthrough confession discovered in an old case file.

Detective Charity Rose, who leads Nassau County’s Cold Case Unit, says closure has always been her driving goal.

“I absolutely wanted to start a cold case unit because there are so many unanswered questions on some of these cases,” Rose said. “I just feel like I have to keep searching to provide the answers for families and to provide closure for them.”

Luzader, 53, was last seen leaving his home in Duval County on May 28, 1983. At the time, parts of Duval were considered dry counties where alcohol couldn’t be sold.
