FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WPTA) - The Fort Wayne Komets are set to celebrate their 74th season Saturday.

Their first game took place on October 25, 1952.

Current Komets Hockey Operations and General Manager David Franke was born in 1952, and the first ever Komets game was held about six-month later.

“I’ve always kind of cherished the fact I was born in 1952 and the Komets started playing in 1952,” Franke said.

And 74 years later, the local sports team still stands strong in Fort Wayne.

“Making it 74 years is quite an accomplishment. It’s a testament number one, to the owners that kept a franchise going all those years, and the fan support,” Franke said.

The Komets celebrate this anniversary, this Saturday when they face the Cincinnati Cyclones.
