PHOENIX — The Arizona State Transportation Board has approved $3 million to repair flood-damaged sections of US 60 between Superior and the Globe-Miami area, authorities announced Thursday.

Repairs are necessary to rebuild embankments that washed away in the floods, according to the Arizona Department of Transportation (ADOT).

The project will also repair damaged sections of the roadway.

Work began Monday under a contract allowing for the urgently needed repairs, ADOT said.

The goal of this project is to restore two lanes of travel on US 60 as swiftly as possible, but in the interim, motorists should expect delays.

ADOT urged drivers to use caution when driving near milepost 241 for the next three to four weeks as the project is underway.
