LANSING, Mich. (WLNS) -- October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month, and local health providers are sharing valuable information that could help you understand your personal risk of breast cancer -- and allow you to take early, preventative action.
According to McLaren Greater Lansing, everyone is at risk of developing breast cancer, but some are more at risk than others, and they recommend you take steps to assess your own risk starting at the age of 25.
McLaren says it begins with looking at your family history and potential genetic factors such as inheriting mutations of BRCA1 and BRCA2. Take note of any relatives known to have been diagnosed with breast cancer, especially parents, siblings, or children.
