Last offseason, the New York Mets stole Juan Soto from the New York Yankees in free agency. This time around, the Yankees could get their revenge by stealing one of the Mets’ own.
First baseman Pete Alonso is a free agent this offseason. The face of the Mets franchise will hit the open market for the first time, and should command big dollars in free agency. Per Jon Heyman of the New York Post , the Yankees, and Hal Steinbrenner, reportedly "like" Alonso.
Alonso has been one of the best power hitters in Major League Baseball since debuting in 2019, slugging 264 home runs in his seven-season career, and being named to five All-Star teams. This past season, Alonso hit .272 with 38 home runs, 126 RBIs
