JASPER COUNTY, Texas — A hunter reported missing along the banks of the Neches River in south Jasper County on Thursday was found safe after an hours-long search involving multiple agencies, according to the Jasper County Sheriff’s Office.
Deputies were notified around 11:05 a.m. on Oct. 23 that one of two hunters who had traveled by boat to squirrel hunt in the area failed to return to their meeting spot at the agreed-upon time. The other hunter contacted authorities, prompting a coordinated search effort.
“Deputies, Texas Game Wardens and other first responders were deployed to the general vicinity of the missing hunter,” the sheriff’s office said in a release. Search teams combed the area on foot and in UTVs, firing several shots into the ground in hopes the sound would alert the miss
