TUCSON, Ariz. (13 News) - Authorities are investigating a fatal officer-involved shooting at a Tucson-area hospital on Wednesday, Oct. 22.
The Pima County Sheriff’s Department said around 1 p.m., a female corrections officer shot an inmate following an altercation in the ER at Banner-South, which is located at East Ajo Way and Country Club.
That inmate has been identified as 31-year-old Nathan Aaron Peru. The corrections officer who discharged her firearm was identified as Caitlin Acosta, a five-year veteran of the department.
Peru, accused of child sex crimes and a suspect in his young daughter’s death, made headlines last year when he was the focus of a massive, months-long manhunt.
