The heads of the world's top rowing and canoeing bodies have poured cold water on claims a "green light" has been given for Olympic and Paralympic paddling events to be held on central Queensland's Fitzroy River as part of the 2032 Games.

The river in Rockhampton was a controversial choice of venue when it was announced in March, with Premier David Crisafulli declaring Brisbane 2032 would be "a Queensland Games for all of Queensland".

Earlier this week it was confirmed the river had passed initial testing by the Games Independent Infrastructure and Coordination Authority (GIICA).

"Effectively now we have a green light for rowing in 2032," Rockhampton Senator Matt Canavan said earlier this week .
