A Longmont High School student was taken into custody Thursday afternoon after police say he brought an unloaded handgun to the school’s campus.

At about 11:30 a.m., a school resource officer at Skyline High School learned of social media photos showing a student with what appeared to be a handgun, according to a Facebook post from Longmont police. When the officer interviewed the student involved, the student said the gun had been sold to a Longmont High School student.

At about 1:25 p.m., Longmont High School staff and the school’s SRO found the student as he arrived on campus and escorted him to the school office. In a pat-down search, police said they found an unloaded 9mm handgun. The student did not have any ammunition, according to Longmont police.

No threats were made to student
