The new moon rose already, but the sky will remain dark through the weekend through the waxing crescent phase — and cooperation from the weather. The crescent moon, at 5-percent illuminated on Oct. 23, will become increasingly brighter but still dim enough to offer a sight of Comet Lemmon and Comet SWAN R2. Weather forecasts show favorable conditions until more cloud cover is expected to arrive later in the weekend.
