A judge has warned those tempted by the “easy money” of the drug trade that “it’s not worth it” after a young man was caught with a suitcase full of cocaine.
Reda Raghay, 22, faced the Victorian County Court on Friday morning for sentencing after pleading guilty to a charge of attempting to import a commercial quantity of the illicit drug.
Raghay, a Swiss national, was picked up by the Australian Border Force at Melbourne Airport on January 3 after collecting a black suitcase.
Inside officers found 25kg of cocaine in 21 individually wrapped bricks and a single towel.
‘Cautionary tale’
Raghay initially claimed he packed the suitcase himself but had lost the key, but appeared “scared” when he saw the bricks.
