The Oklahoma State Board of Education is set to meet Thursday morning to outline a budget and address multiple lawsuits against the Oklahoma Department of Education.
2026 budget requests for Oklahoma state agencies were due Oct. 1, but State Superintendent Lindel Fields and the board were given an extension due to a change in department leadership.

The department is officially requesting just over $4 billion, roughly $23 million more than the agency received in 2025.
The multi-million dollar increase allows funding for the flexible benefits allowance, which covers health insurance for teachers, and also takes into account a $50,000 cut to funding for civil rights curriculum.
