Several high schools across Oklahoma are moving up their football games to Thursday night, as potential storms and lightning threaten Friday’s traditional kickoff schedule.
Jenks Athletic Director Clay Martin says administrators began talking early in the week after receiving updated weather reports predicting high lightning chances Friday evening.
“As we began to look at our week and started looking at potential weather coming in, conversations began,” Martin said. “First of all, it was just getting the most up-to-date reports we could get from Perry Weather, who we utilize for these situations, and then starting conversations with our opponent, Moore High School.”
He says the decision was ultimately driven by safety, not rain.
“This wasn’t about rain. This is about lightning,” Martin
