With favorable weather conditions in place for hazardous fuels reduction work, Dixie National Forest officials announced crews are ready to start prescribed burns in Iron, Kane and Garfield counties.
Dixie National Forest and Cedar City Ranger District are planning prescribed fire operations starting the week of Oct. 28, pending all required approvals, according to a press release issued by the Forest Service.
Officials noted some areas may be closed to the public for public safety.
“We estimate this work to continue throughout the fall and winter of 2025, and into the spring of 2026, as weather conditions allow,” the press release said. “We use prescribed fires to help reduce overgrown and dead and down vegetation to help protect local communities, infrastructure, and natural resources
