MEMPHIS, Tenn. - A woman was shot and killed early Wednesday morning in northeast Memphis, police said.
Hours later, Memphis Police (MPD) returned to the home to take a man into custody. When they arrived they found a second person who was dead and appeared to be partially dismembered, the U.S. Marshals said.
Police said it all started around 1:30 a.m., when the Tennessee Highway Patrol contacted MPD about a shooting on Helsley Road off Chelsea Avenue. The officers arrived to find a woman had died by gunfire, police said.
During the investigation, MPD said a woman punched an officer. The woman entered the crime scene and while the officer tried to get her to leave the area, she struck the officer, police said.
The woman was taken into custody, police said.
