CHICOPEE, Mass. (WWLP) - A former Hampden County Sheriff's Deputy, John DeLuca, died after falling off a mountain in Alaska during a hunting trip with his son.
John DeLuca, 67, was on a hunting trip with his son, Dave DeLuca, when he slipped and fell down a mountain. The U.S. Coast Guard was called to the incident after receiving a call at around 10:45 a.m.
According to the Alaska Department of Public Safety, the U.S. Coast Guard was notified of the incident on October 1st.
Dave DeLuca attempted to rescue his father after the fall, which resulted in him falling 200 feet. Despite the fall, Dave survived and performed CPR on his father for three hours until a rescue helicopter arrived.
A GoFundMe has been set up by the family to assist with medical and memorial expenses.
