The President of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen said on Thursday EU agreed to adopt the "wide ranging and extensive sanction package that will hits at the heart of the Russian war economy".
She also said the US is proceeding with its own set of sanctions on Russia and said two sets of sanctions will put more pressure on Russia as EU vowed to stand with Ukraine as long as it takes.
European Union leaders also endorsed a plan to ensure that Europe can defend itself against an outside attack by the end of the decade as concern mounts that Russia is already probing the 27-nation bloc’s defenses.
The European Union has agreed on a new raft of sanctions against Russia targeting its shadow fleet of oil tankers and banning its imports of liquefied natural gas, the Danish EU presidency announced Thursday.
