COLUMBIA, Miss. (WDAM) - The Columbia Police Department and Marion General Hospital are teaming up to help county residents get rid of outdated or unwanted prescription medications.
The organizations are participating in the Drug Enforcement Administration’s National Drug Take Back Day Saturday.
To participate, visit Marion General Hospital between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. Saturday and drop off prescription medications free of charge.
“We’ve got to make sure that the kids do not get hold of medications, make sure it stays out of the landfills and make sure it stays out of our water system,” said Glenn Lowery, Columbia Police Department assistant chief.
“(After the event) we gather up the medication, we also weigh it, and then, we take it to the specific location to have it properly disposed.
