Dubach, La. (KNOE) - After Governor Jeff Landry announced Wednesday that SNAP benefits could end next month due to the government shutdown, he now says in a statement, “I am making a top priority to ensure that seniors, individuals with disabilities, and children who rely on food stamps do not go hungry in Louisiana.”
State Representative Michael Echols confirms that there have already been conversations with the Governor about doing just that.
“Again, it’s about 100 to $140 million,” Echols said. “We’re looking at ways through the Treasury or other allocations through joint legislative budget allocations that we can backfill that money.”
