US President Donald Trump says Israeli annexation of the occupied West Bank “won’t happen”, after members of the Israeli Knesset advanced bills to annex parts of the occupied Palestinian territory.
“Don’t worry about the West Bank, Israel’s not going to do anything with the West Bank,” Mr Trump told reporters at the White House when asked if he was concerned by the votes in Israel’s parliament.
A bill applying Israeli law to the West Bank, a move tantamount to annexation of the territory Israel captured in the 1967 Middle East war, won preliminary approval from Israeli MPs on Wednesday.
In an interview with Time magazine , the Mr Trump warned that Israel would lose “all support” from his administration if it attempted to proceed with the annexation legislation.
