Amidst the pandemonium of on-field celebration for the World Series-bound Blue Jays , there was a moment of poignancy, a very private embrace between Bo Bichette and Vladimir Guerrero Jr. Murmuring into each other’s ear.
This was what they had promised each other, from the salad days of their baseball careers.
Gilt-edged teenagers when first they met, right after Bichette had been drafted in June 2016. Guerrero, of course, was never drafted — scouted as a prodigy and signed as an international free agent in 2015.
For nearly a decade they’ve been in lockstep, these past seven years in Toronto, Bichette making his MLB debut 94 days after Guerrero.
From boys to men, born a year apart. Guerrero now a husband and father, Bichette with his nuptials slated for February.
