WAWAYANDA – One day after the Wawayanda Town Planning Board overruled a zoning board’s rejection of a 3.2 million square foot Amazon center, the Orange County Industrial Development Agency approved a 15-year payment in lieu of taxes (PILOT) and other incentives for Scannell Properties to build the giant facility.

Attorney Michael Sussman, who has been challenging the project, said he expects additional litigation to block it.

He is also concerned with potential safety risks at such a facility, saying it was learned only recently that the plant would use lithium-ion batteries to power robots.
