AURORA, Ohio (WJW) - After years of hard work, a groundbreaking ceremony was held Thursday at the old Sea World property in Aurora.

“This is a big day for all of us who have labored since 2014,” said Aurora Mayor Ann Womer-Benjamin.

Efforts to purchase the property went through many setbacks over the years since Geauga Lake and Sea World closed until the deal was finalized in December 2024 for $5.3 million.

“I just can’t give enough credit to council for their vision and support to Bainbridge Township for working with us on this, and, of course, all of my staff,” said Womer-Benjamin.

The 47-acre property, which includes the lake, will be transformed into a public recreation destination with a nostalgic feel.
