A hearing on Monday to address the issue of whether Brian Walshe, the 50-year-old man accused of killing and dismembering his wife nearly three years ago, is competent to stand trial was canceled by the judge overseeing his case.

Judge Diane Freniere canceled the competency hearing at the request of Bridgewater State Hospital, where Walshe is being evaluated. The hospital requested more time than the 20 days Freniere originally allotted to complete the evaluation, court records show.
