The shooting and killing at Annunciation School hit very close to home for this writer.

One of the children shot was my first cousin's granddaughter. She was shot in the neck and still has shrapnel embedded in her neck, which as of this writing, still cannot be removed. She spent days in the hospital. She says that she will never be able to go into a building with stained glass windows again.

The following was not written by her nor was it written by any child, but it could have been. Please read this as if this child belonged to you, because all children are entrusted to all of us. We are the adults in their world and, as such, we are given the responsibility to make, to the best of our ability, a world in which it is safe for them to be anywhere.
