The town of Happy Valley-Goose Bay is mourning the loss of one of its founding residents.
Ronald Perrault, who was also the town’s oldest living resident, passed away on Thursday at the age of 88.
According to the town, Perrault was born on September 2nd, 1937 at the nursing station in Mary’s Harbour.
After spending the first few years of his life in Makkovik, his family moved to Otter Creek to help with the construction of the Goose Air Base.
On September 26th, 1943 his family settled with two other families in what would become Happy Valley.
The town says Perrault was an active contributor to the community’s development in his youth. He and his father were leaders in Boy Scouts, he played softball, and in is his later years took up competitive bowling – despite being legally blind f
