A man was hit in the face with a bottle as he was robbed in a South End grocery store on Thursday afternoon.

The incident happened at 4:40 p.m. at Liriano Grocery, located at 1813 Washington St., according to the Boston Police Department.

An officer who was working in the area was flagged down by a man with apparent injuries, police said, who said he’d just been robbed by two other men at the local grocery store.

The man said one of the thieves punched him in the head and stole his cash, while the other hit him in the face with a bottle, according to police. They also threatened the man with a “small black object” that he thought was a gun, police said.
