TAMPA, Fla. ( WWSB ) - The University of South Florida ( USF ) women’s basketball program is expecting to get a new head coach soon.
After 25 years at the helm, Jose Fernandez is expected to depart the position to become the new head coach of the Dallas Wings in the WNBA. Michele Woods-Baxter has been named the interim head coach.

Fernandez has been with the Lady Bulls since 2000, and he has coached them to ten NCAA tournament appearances. This includes as recently as 2025, when the Lady Bulls won the American Athletic Conference title.
In his time in Tampa, Fernandez compiled an overall 485-317 record.
The Lady Bulls’ 2025-26 season tips off on November 3.
