It is my recollection that the last time we adjusted our clocks seasonally, Congress had a consensus that this seasonal adjustment was not working but failed to reconcile the matter. It seemed that not only Congress but any commentary that I read anywhere seemed to lock in on either daylight saving time or standard time as the preferred time system, one or the other.

I think we need to think outside the box on this one. I see the way forward as neither of the aforementioned lock-steps: Let’s meet halfway on this, adjust the clocks by half an hour, and leave them alone for all time. This way, nobody loses the argument, and we all gain a little sanity. Everybody saves face.
