The Queen’s Gaels will have their all-Canadian linebacker Justin Pace back in the lineup for their run in the OUA playoffs, what passes for good news for the team.
Pace will be an instant upgrade to the Queen’s defence after their season-ending 31-28 loss to Windsor last weekend. Whether his return came in time to meaningfully impact the team’s fortunes is another thing entirely.
Ontario University Athletics dealt Pace what turned out to be a three-game suspension for a hit he laid on Waterloo quarterback Nick Orr in Queen’s 58-18 win over the Warriors back on Sept. 20.
You have to suppose that those meting out the punishment factored in both the gratuitous nature of the hit and Pace’s and teammates’ celebration of it. You have to suppose it, that is, because the OUA didn’t explain it,
