GOODYEAR, AZ (AZFamily) — Police have identified a mother who was tragically hit and killed near the entrance of a Goodyear grocery store on Thursday afternoon.

Around 1 p.m., a family of three was heading into the Walmart on Estrella Parkway , off of Interstate 10, when 41-year-old Michelle Perez and her daughter, roughly 3 years old, were struck by an SUV. Police said Perez was holding the child.

“The vehicle backed in,” said Goodyear Police Sgt. Mayra Reeson.

When officers arrived, bystanders were doing CPR on Perez. She died at the scene.

The child was taken to the hospital as a precaution and should be okay. The third family member was not hurt.
