Drew Dilkens hopes people in the west end decide to cast a ballot in the byelection on Monday but Windsor's mayor isn't expecting a high turnout.

"I think the voter turn out is going to be incredibly low," he said.

City staff hope things such as two days of advanced polling and a long list of candidates will increase turnout in a part of Windsor noticing a downward trend.

People are voting to replace Coun. Fabio Costante who resigned in late June to lead the Windsor-Essex Community Housing Corporation.

He was elected for a second term in 2022 in a race that saw 16.5 per cent of eligible Ward 2 voters cast a ballot, well below the city-wide turnout of 32 per cent.

The ward's voter turnout has been steadily dropping from 2010 when 33.8 per cent of people made sure to have their say.
