HERRICKS, Long Island (PIX11) --- A Long Island man is accused of killing his estranged wife with a cyanide-like powder, police said Friday.
Asif Qureshi, 53, was arrested and charged with second-degree murder a week after his 46-year-old wife was found dead in her Herricks home, according to the Nassau County Police Department
Aleena Asif was found unconscious with facial burns in the home on Larch Drive during a wellness check at around 3:50 p.m. on Oct. 17, police said.
The woman was pronounced dead at the scene. The medical examiner determined she died of asphyxiation by an unknown chemical substance, police said. The incident was ruled a homicide.
Qureshi will be arraigned in First District Court in Hempstead on Friday.
