MADISON, Wis. (WMTV) - A Madison mental health advocate whose journey has been followed over the years hosted a showing of her movie and an open discussion Thursday to bring awareness to mental health.
Nikyra McCann was diagnosed with a mental illness at 20. At 24, she self-produced the 2015 film “Don’t Judge Me.” The movie shares details of her personal mental health crisis and her path to healing. She hopes it will bring more unity through her story and inspire others.
“At the age 20 I started hearing voices and it sounded like it could have been the voice of God saying we needed unity in the world and more love and whatever I imagine I just imagine helping the world,” McCann said.
